On Monday, August 25, the Eagle filesystem will be taken offline for a NEO system software upgrade (to version 7.1-020) and hardware maintenance. As a result, Polaris, Sophia, Crux, and EDTB will be unavailable during this period.

We aim to complete the upgrade by Wednesday, August 27, at which point Sophia, Crux, and EDTB will be returned to service.

Polaris will remain unavailable beyond that time to accommodate an additional HPCM upgrade. The HPCM upgrade involves the following key version changes:

-Suse 15 SP6 (a major kernel change)

-Slingshot host stack 12.0.0, with improvements to handling nvidia/nccl/etc and updates to libfabric

-Update NVIDIA driver version (565.57.01) (CUDA 12.9)

-Default base nvidia-hpc_sdk is now at 24.11 (CUDA 12.9)

-Updated Cray Programming Environment (PE) release 25.03, includes support for older releases of 23.12, 24.03, 24.07, 24.11

-Lustre updated to B21

-USS 1.3.1 / PALS updates to 1.6.1

-PBS update to 2025.2.0 We expect to return Polaris to service on Friday, Aug 29.
